Still choosing who she is

I am KYRA TANE.

I used to care a lot about what people thought of me.

Too cold, too sensitive, too hard to approach—or not obedient enough, not gentle enough, not enough like the person they imagined.

Then I realized that if I kept explaining myself, I could easily forget what I truly wanted.

So now, I would rather write my answers into songs.

Sometimes I am certain. Sometimes I hesitate.

I put on my sunglasses and keep moving forward. Sometimes I take them off, so you can see I am not as indifferent as I seem.

I will not tell you who I will become.

Because I am still deciding that myself.

I am KYRA TANE.

See you in the next song.

Interview notes

A little more about KYRA

If you could describe yourself in only three words?

Curious. Difficult. Changing.

Do you think you are a confident person?

Not always. I just stopped thinking doubt means stop.

Why do you always wear sunglasses?

Sometimes it’s fashion. Sometimes it’s armor.

When do you take them off?

When I don’t mind being seen.

How do you most dislike being described?

I don’t hate labels. I hate when people think one label is the whole story.

What do your songs most often explore?

Choices. Mostly the ones that change you.

Is love important to you?

Sure. Just not more important than myself.

What are you afraid of losing?

My ability to change my mind.

What do you hope people remember after hearing your songs?

Not me. The part of themselves they recognized in it.

Who do you ultimately want to become?

I don’t know yet. That’s kind of the point.
